Terra Solutions recently commissioned Ciaran Reilly & Associates to undertake an independent design check for a crane platform adjacent to a 20m diameter and 16m deep precast concrete shaft at Avonspark Road, Glasgow, required as part of a wastewater collection scheme. The upper 7m of soil was peat and soft silt which required careful consideration.
The independent design check was largely carried out using a specialist software package and it was shown that the additional actions and displacements imposed by the crane could be accommodated within the existing embedded retaining wall system in place at the site.
